Terry Schreiber Studio (TSS) offered a Rehearsal Performance Workshop that gives actors the opportunity to experience the process of being apart of the production of a play. From the table reading on the first day to lightning and sound to the rehearsal performance. Before I enrolled in this course, I had taken only a few courses at TSS. I felt like I needed a bigger challenge and if you had completed the beginning intensive course and scene study, you were allowed to enroll. I mustered up the confidence to enroll and things went great!
The Art of Dinning is about this small popular restaurant that has amazing food. And the play highlights 3 tables that show various relationships and circumstances of characters, along with what's going on behind the scenes with the challenges that the owners are going through to pull off an 5-star presentation. My role was one of a birthday girl who's friends had taken her out to this fancy restaurant to celebrate. But we ended up fighting over the food which actually was pretty complicated because we had to do a bit of miming and plate passing. It ended with my friend basically dropping a bomb on me, which as my character should have left me ashamed and humiliated which aren't feelings that I had explored before.
Anyway, I made it through! The cast of actors were so great. Everyone had great acting skills and came from different backgrounds. One actor had already graduated from a one year conservatory program, another actor was a writer and director. Just an array of actors situations coming together for this one performance. And best of all, my friends came to support me and that's always nice. I'm happy that I wasn't afraid to have them come see my acting skills. Sometimes when we change careers at the mid-way point of our lives, it can be a hump for our friends to believe in us but you gotta share what you love and hope they see your potential. We went out to dinner to celebrate!
